When Dad searched for lodging facilities that allowed dogs in Motegi Town, where the Motegi rest stop is located, he found one in Showa Furusato Mura (昭和ふるさと村).

So, we went to see what Showa Furusato Mura was like.

Showa Furusato Mura is a glamping facility that utilizes the former Kibata Elementary School (木幡小学校) building, which was closed down.

In Motegi Town, following the promulgation of the school system in 1872, an elementary school named Shubunsha (聚分舎) was opened in 1873 at Jigenji Temple (慈眼寺) in Kobata Village (木幡村). In 1895, the elementary school was moved from the temple to Showa Furusato Mura and its name changed. In 1934, as the number of children increased, the “Kobata Elementary School” building was built using cedar and pine in Sakagawa Village. In 2006, the school was closed down due to a decrease in the number of students. Kobata Elementary School produced 3,625 graduates over 132 years.

In 2008, the school building became a training and glamping facility where you can experience the atmosphere of the Showa era under the name "Showa Furusato Mura."

This school building is a one-story wooden frame structure with a gabled roof and tiled roof, with a floor area of 75.5m x 10m. The main entrance in the center of the school building has a western-style architecture with a hip-folded roof.

Six classrooms for grades 1 to 6 and a staff room are located on the south side of the 75-meter-long hallway. The ceiling height is 3.636m.

Besides, this building has been designated as a registered tangible cultural property in 2021.

Dogs can tour the school building on the condition that they are held in the arms of their owners, so I went to see it.
