Hanyu PA (for the In-bound line to Tokyo) is a unique parking area that recreates the world view of Shotaro Ikenami's “Onihei Hankacho (Onihei Crimes Note, 鬼平犯科帳)”, and is named “Onihei Edodokoro (鬼平江戸処)”.

“Onihei Hankacho” is, to put it simply, a historical and detective novel set in the Edo period.

Heizo Hasegawa, the person who the main character is based off of, was born around 1745 and died at the age of 50. He worked for “Hitsuke Tozoku Aaratamekata”. The main character's nickname in the novel was "Demon Heizo".

(※Hitsuke Tozoku Aratamekata was a post that cracked down on serious crimes such as arson, robbery, and gambling in the Edo period.)

The Onihei Edodokoro faithfully recreates the streets of Edo from the end of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century, and some of the shops here even appear in “Onihei Hankacho”. The souvenir shops are copied after Ueno Hirokoji, which is the setting of the novel.

In "Honmonji Bosetsu (本門寺暮雪), one of the chapters in the novel, Onihei gives rice crackers to a Shiba dog named “Kuma” that approaches him at a teahouse. Immediately after that, the dog helps the protagonist in some crises. Kuma then becomes Onihei's pet dog and appears in the Onihei Hankacho many times.

Some people like Onihei so much that they get their own Shiba dog.

I took a walk in Onihei Edodokoro, feeling like a Shiba dog.
