Komachi no Sato (Komachi Village) is located in Ono, Tsuchiura City. Here, there is a legend that Ono no Komachi died on July 7, 883 after falling ill on the way from Kyoto to Oshu.

Ono no Komachi is a famous poet in the Heian period, and was chosen as one of the Hyakunin Isshu (百人一首), Rokkasen (六歌仙), and Thirty-six Immortals of Poetry (三十六歌仙). She is also said to be an unmatched beauty. In short, she was a talented Heian era superstar.

Most of you may know her poem:
“花の色は うつりにけりな いたづらに わが身世にふる ながめせしまに”.
(The color of the cherry blossoms faded in vain during the long rains of spring. Just as my beauty faded while I was worrying about love and other worldly things.)

Komachi, who lived a glamorous life at the imperial court, left when the emperor she served died, and she set out on a journey of wandering around the country. Her subsequent trajectory is unknown. Ono no Komachi is so popular even now that there are graves and lores dedicated to her all over Japan.

On a spacious ground of Komachi no Sato, there are the main building of Komachi no Yakata, which has exhibits related to Komachi's folklore, the experience hall where you can experience making soba noodles, and a farmer's market attached to Cafe Komachi. Moreover, there is "Soba-dokoro Komachi-An" that uses Hitachi Aki soba milled by a water turbine with a diameter of 7m inside.

You can also see fireflies from early to mid-June.

Some people also use this village as a starting point for the Asahi Pass hiking course at an altitude of 302m.

Dad heard that the wisteria flowers were blooming there, so we went to Komachi no Sato.

[Ono no Komachi and the Three Great Beauties]
In 1888, the Yomiuri Shimbun selected Cleopatra VII, Yang Guifei, and Ono no Komachi as the three most beautiful women in the world, and this myth spread in Japan. This was before the Sino-Japanese War, so it is said that the articles were written to promote national prestige.
One of the world's most famous beauties is Helen of Troy. After all, Helen is the only case where a beautiful woman caused a war.
