Oversized things sometimes appear in fairy tales. Perhaps the most well-known is the "Gigantic Turnip", one of the Russian folk tales. However, the "Gigantic turnip" is only in the story and doesn't actually exist.
This time, I found a very large pot instead of a turnip, so I'll introduce it.
Speaking of large pots, “Mogami River Imoni-kai” in Yamagata Prefecture is famous.
※”Imoni-kai (Imo party)" is an outdoor party where people enjoy cooking and eating various vegetables including satoimo and meat in a large hot-pot.
According to Guinness, at the "30th Japan's Best Imoni-kai Festival" held on September 16, 2018, the world's largest pot was used to serve “stewed imo” to 12,695 people for eight hours. For the cooking, they used a 6.5-meter-diameter “Onabe Nabetaro” that was created through crowdfunding. This pot can cook about 30,000 meals using a "mobile crane specification machine, backhoe".
On September 18, 2022, they plan to use this large pot to hold the 34th Japan's Best Imoni-kai Festival, providing about 30,000 meals. At the time of writing this article in the diary (Sept.12, 2022), it is before the festival, but by the time you read this diary, the Guinness record of “12,696” people may have been broken.
Here, in Nasu, I found a large pot at Toda Mizube Park. It's not as big as the pot at Mogami River, but its handle is so big that it's almost impossible to lift it with human hands, so I think they use a backhoe for cooking. It also has its own large stove and a rain-proof roof to protect it from the rain.
