There are eight roadside stations (道の駅) in Minami-Boso City, Chiba Prefecture. Dogs can't enter the roadside station buildings, but we dogs can walk in the garden, so if weather permitting, Minami Boso is one of the best places to travel with dogs.

Roadside station "Rosemary Park" is located in Maruyama-cho, Minami-Boso City.

There was a park called "Shakespeare Country Park" there, but it closed in November 2011. As of 2022, there are still some buildings from "Shakespeare Country Park" that aren’t open to the public, but you can see the buildings from the outside.

The exception is the information shop, which has a shop on the first floor and a Shakespeare mini exhibition room on the second floor, which you can enter with a dog if you hold it.

So, this time, I would like to introduce the building of the information shop.

Shakespeare is the most famous author in the English-speaking world. He was born in Stratford Upon Avon and was active in London. After his success in London, he bought the second largest house called “New Place” in Stratford Upon Avon in 1597, where he worked.

Records show that there were 10 hearths, 20-30 rooms, and ample space for the entire Shakespeare family. Behind the courtyard stood a large hall in the late medieval period style, a major gathering place for Shakespeare's family. Famous sculptor George Vertue made a sketch of the house at the time as seen from Chapel Street.

After Shakespeare's death, the house belonged to another family. But because Shakespeare was so famous, so many tourists came there that the owner couldn't stand it and demolished it. For this reason, the only record of the New Place is Vertue's sketch.

The Information Shop is a restored New Place building based on the single sketch by Vertue. It's a very big building. It seems that this is the only building in the world that has restored New Place.

Once in New Place, you can time travel into the 16th century when Shakespeare was alive.

5 I’m observing the Shakespeare Mini Exhibition Room on the 2nd floor while being hugged. Behind you can see a 1:15 scale diorama of the Globe Theater in the 16th century. They were created and donated by paper doll creator Kyoko Nakanishi.

6 This is a close-up of the Globe Theater stage. The stage actors at that time were all male, and the female roles were played by boys before their voice change. The actor in the red dress in the center is also a man. It's like Kabuki.
