We saw a building like “Ryugujo Castle” next to Akebonoyama Park, so we visited it on the way back from the park.

※Ryugujo Castle (竜宮城), which appears in the Japanese folk tale "Urashima Taro(浦島太郎)", is a gorgeous castle like Shangri-La.

The building that looked like Ryugujo Castle was the Romon Gate of “Fuse Benten (Koryusan Tokaiji Temple 紅竜山東海寺)”.
Fuse Benten is one of the three Bentens (Fuse, Enoshima, and Sensouji) in the Kanto region.

Legend has it that in 807, a red dragon appeared with a big thunderstorm and offered a lump of earth in his hand to create an island.

From that moment on, a mysterious light shone on the island every night.

One day, a celestial maiden appeared in a villager's dream and said, “I came from Tajima Province (now Hyogo Prefecture). Find me and enshrine me.''

It is said that the temple was originated when the villager woke up from his dream and followed the light, he found a precious statue about 9 cm high, so he built a small, thatched shrine and then enshrined the statue.

The white snake is said to be Benten's messenger and an incarnation of Benten.
Therefore, the red dragon and the white snake are the characters of Fuse Benten.

Built in 1810, the two-story gate (Saishokaku 最勝閣) has the first floor painted white with plaster and is shaped like the Ryugujo Castle. Currently, the plaster has been replaced with concrete. The main hall, which was built in 1717, originally had a thatched roof, but was later re-roofed with copper sheets. Besides these, there are a bell tower, three-story pagoda, Fuse Kannon, Pinkoro Jizo, etc.

① It is the path to Fuse Benten with a tower gate like Ryugujo Castle.

② Mom is carrying me and climbing the stairs to "Ryugujo Castle", no, "Romon".

③ I’m taking a rest under the gate.

④ When we climbed the stairs, we came out in front of the main hall.

⑤ The entrance of the main hall has a ramp, probably for accessibility. Dogs are not allowed this point.

⑥ I’ve come to the side of the main hall.

⑦ You can see character boards of a red dragon and a white snake.

⑧ The board for the commemorative photo is too big for me.

⑨ I am asking Mom, "What are you drinking?"

⑩ I want to drink amazake (sweet, fermented, rice sake), too.

⑪ This is the information board of Pinkoro Jizo.
(The name "Pinkoro" was inspired by the idea of "living a long, healthy life without being sick in bed." It is now a symbol of health and longevity.)

⑫ I am in front of the Pinkoro Jizo.

⑬ I am in front of the bell tower. Oh, you can't see the entire roof.

⑭ This is a photo that Dad retook. Now you can see the entire roof, but this time I got smaller.

⑮ If you look towards Shichirigawatari, you can see Mt. Tsukuba.
