文字数 2,180文字

Although not as famous as Kairakuen in Mito, Mt. Tsukuba also has many plum trees.
About 1,000 plum trees (800 white plums and 200 red plums) of about 30 varieties are planted on the southern slopes (4.5 ha) of Mt. Tsukuba at an altitude of 200 to 270 meters.

In 2023, the plum festival is being held from Feb.18th to Mar.19th, but it’ll be crowded during the plum festival. Therefore, although we were earlier than the peak season, we went to Mt. Tsukuba plum grove before the festival.

The Mt.Tsukuba plum grove was created in 1966 to harvest plums, and since 1974 the plum festival has been held each year. After that, there was a shortage of people to take care of the plum trees, and the areas that were left unattended increased, resulting in a decline in plum production.
It turned out that the Tsukuba Express, which opened in 2005, could attract tourists, and over the course of six years from 2000 to 2006, it was redeveloped as a tourist facility in Tsukuba City.

Recently, it has been redeveloped, and in the plum grove, there is an observation pavilion with a thatched roof (renovated in 2013), a winding wooden path (refurbished in 2015), a fan-shaped bridge, a Mikaeri bench (improved in 2014), a Kaneore bridge, a Seseragi bridge and so on.
In addition, about 1,000 hydrangeas were also planted here.
The best season to see them is during the rainy season every year.

A live camera was also installed.

③ I'm taking a walk on the boardwalk.

④ I’m looking at views from the pavilion. The plum grove has been selected as one of the 100 best views of Mt. Fuji in the Kanto region, but I couldn't see Mt. Fuji that day.

⑤ This is the scenery from the pavilion. It's in the direction of Lake Kasumigaura, but I couldn't see it.

⑥It is the fan-shaped bridge.

⑦I'm on the fan-shaped bridge. It looks like a bench.

⑧ Adding plums in the background makes it look a little more like a bridge.

⑨I’m on a wooden deck. You can see an arbor in the background.

⑩Finally, we went back through the Kaneore bridge.
