After having dinner at the hotel, we decided to take a walk along the beach near the hotel.

The destination for the walk is a roadside station (道の駅) named “Chikura Shiokaze Kingdom”.
(※” Roadside station” is a rest stop located in the open roads equipped with parking lots, rest rooms, restaurants and souvenir shops selling local products.)

I was tired, so when we went there, Mom used a dog sling to carry me.
I intended to walk on my own on the way back to the hotel.

(For a picture of the dog sling, see "Episode 17 A trip to Yamadera.")

When I arrived at the roadside station "Chikura Shiokaze Kingdom", it was already past the closing time, but I was able to see the ship at the outdoor exhibition.

It's the first time I've seen a ship so close. Looking at the ship, I felt as if I were a captain.

Then I walked along the coastal embankment on my own and returned to the hotel.

The coastal embankment had a mural. The embankment, which is less than 500m long, is named "Chikura Art Sea Walkway II", and 20 artists and children painted 48 sections of the embankment.

There are two other embankment murals named Chikura Art Sea Walkway I "Whale Area" and Chikura Art Sea Walkway III "Okawa Area". It's amazing, isn’t it?

Art museums are usually closed to dogs. So, until now, I haven't had a chance to see art up close. Art is splendid when I look at it closely.

I want to tell art-loving dogs all over the country: "Hey, art-loving dogs all over the country, if you want to learn about art, why not go to the Chikura art sea promenade."

Looking at the ship up close, I feel like a captain.

This is the start of the "Chikura Art Sea Walkway II" mural.

This is a picture of a “Mao cat” painted by Mao Yamaguchi. He is a painter living in Minami Boso City, and the founder of "Chikura Art Sea Walkway".

This is a portrait of Hayakawa Sessyu painted by Hanawa Makoto. Hayakawa Sessyu was from Chikura-cho and was one of Hollywood's most popular stars among women during the silent film era (1910-1920). It’s cool.

They are “Amabie”. “Amabie” is a legendary Japanese plague-curing mermaid that appeared in the sea of Higo Kuni, which is now Kumamoto Prefecture, in May 1846.
