文字数 2,142文字

"Looking to the future" is a monument made by OkamotoTaro (岡本太郎).

He is the artist who is best known for creating the 70m-tall “Tower of the Sun (太陽の塔)”, the symbolic monument of the 1970 Japan World Exposition in Osaka 1970, also known as Expo'70.

Okamoto Taro created the 5-meter-tall monument named “Looking to the Future (未来を視る)” for the 1985 Tsukuba Expo.

Originally, this monument was located in Miyukigaoka No. 2 green area, which was the site of the Expo.

In 2005, however, along with the opening of the Tsukuba Express, it was relocated in front of the Expo’70 Commemorative Park Station (万博記念公園駅).

It is said that this monument expresses the image of a human being who pursues science as an image that has three faces and sees the world with transparent eyes. A disk-shaped blue monument and a white monument were also made to match this monument.

"Looking to the future" is the most famous monument in Tsukuba city.

This time, I'd like to introduce the Miyukigaoka No. 2 green area where this monument was previously installed, as well as the monument in front of Expo’70 Commemorative Park Station.

Miyukigaoka No. 2 Green Space is adjacent to the Expo'70 Commemorative Park, which was the site of Expo'70, so many people think that it is part of the Expo'70 Commemorative Park.

① We’ve arrived at Expo’70 Commemorative Park Station.

② This is the explanation board of "Looking to the Future". It's sad that it's only written in Japanese.

③ I am in front of "Looking to the future".

④ A face is drawn on the blue monument. I'm short, so I can't see it.

⑤ This is "Looking to the future" reflected in the window of the station building.

⑥ The viewing angle is different, so it is a different face from the photo in ③.

⑦ The red circle on the bottom left is Miyukigaoka No. 2 green area, and the P above it is the parking lot of Miyukigaoka No. 2 green area. The monument was in the red circle.

⑧ This commentary is the only evidence that the monument used to be in the Miyukigaoka No. 2 green area.

⑨ I am in the place where the monument used to be.
