In Tsukuba City, there is a promenade called “Ume no Ki Dori (梅の木通り)”. I introduced the park near my house in "Chapter 289: Plum Grove in the Park (2023)".
Every year, the plum trees on the promenade and in the park bear plums. Tsukuba City commissions a company to harvest the plums in the park.
Since green plums contain hydrocyanic acid poison, neither birds nor insects eat them. When plums are fully ripe, the poison is removed, and the plums fall to the ground. If you were a farmer, you would put nets on the ground to harvest and sell the fallen plums.
There are no nets on the promenade and the park, but after a storm you can find beautiful fallen plums.

Fallen plums are ripe and smell good. Some people say that fallen plums are the most delicious.
"Ochibaiki(落ち梅記)" written by Yamamoto Shugoro (山本 周五郎) is a novel with the title of fallen plums. At the end of the novel, there is a description of the sound of a falling plum.
