Near Utsunomiya light rail station, there are the ruins of Tobiyama Castle from the Middle Ages (late 13th century to 16th century).

The ruins of Tobiyama Castle were maintained and the Tobiyama Castle Historical Site Park opened in March 2005.

Inside the park, there are restored earthworks, dry moats, wooden bridges, and dug-standing pillar buildings that are believed to have been soldiers' posts.

Additionally, the “Tobiyama Historical Museum'' has been opened adjacent to the park, and historical materials related to the castle are on display.

Speaking of castle ruins, there are many castle ruins in the Kanto region. For example, the “Oda Castle Ruins Historical Grounds'' (see Chapter 440) where Dondoyaki was held are also castle ruins.

However, there are only a few cases where buildings have been restored and the excavated items are displayed.

This time, I’ll take you around Tobiyama Castle Historic Site Park, showing the exhibits in the exhibition hall.

① “Tobiyama Historical Museum” is now in sight.

② I'm at the entrance of the museum.

③ This is a close-up photo.

④ Dad digitally added some shapes to the panoramic photo of the park. First, I’ll explain the light blue square entrance to the castle ruins.

⑤ This is a miniature of the entrance to the castle ruins.

⑥ This is the bridge at the entrance to the actual castle ruins.

⑦ This is a miniature of “ashigaru” crossing the bridge and attacking the castle.
※”Ashigaru” refers to common foot soldiers.

⑧ Behind the ashigaru is a samurai warrior on horseback.

⑨ This is a miniature of the Heian period “pit dwelling house (竪穴建物)” located in the light blue circle in Photo ④.

⑩ This is a restored “pit dwelling house”.

⑪ I’ll pass the pit dwelling house and move forward. When I turn right, I'll enter the light blue rectangular area in Photo ④. There is a dug-standing pillar building that is thought to be a soldiers’ post.

⑫ I am in front of the dug-standing pillar building.

⑬ This is a close-up photo.

⑭ This is also a close-up photo.

⑮ There are many dug-standing pillar buildings(堀立柱建物).

⑯ I entered the dug-standing pillar building. All we can see is cleaning tools.

⑰ I went into another building. An explanation board is displayed here.

⑱ I'm heading towards the exit of the park. You can see the Nikko Mountain Range.

⑲ I’ve returned to the museum. This armor can be worn by humans, but not by dogs.

⑳ With Bing's help, Dad created a photo of me wearing armor. Wow! I feel like a samurai.
