(279) Doll’s Festival at Makabe-machi ③

文字数 1,977文字

Last time, I showed you the Hina dolls displayed at Kawashima Clothing Store, Kawashima Bookstore, and the former Makabe Post Office in Makabe-machi. If you go further south, you’ll come to the intersection with “the Shioda's Misekura” and “the Takaku's Misekura”.

From the Meiji to the beginning of the Showa era, this intersection was the center of Makabe-machi.

At that time, the Ushioda's family was running the “Tsuruya draper’s shop”, which was also called the ”Mitsukoshi of the countryside”. The "Tsuruya sundries store", which the Furuhashi's family was running, was also prosperous, and the people of the town called the draper’s shop "Upper Tsuruya" and the sundries store "Lower Tsuruya".

The "Tsuruya sundries store" was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, but has not been demolished.

The Takaku family's house was also greatly damaged by the earthquake. The house was donated to Makabe-machi and renovated. The house owned by Makabe-machi is called "the former Takaku's".

If you go east from the intersection, you will find Iseya Ryokan, Ishida Hardware Store, and Murai Brewery.

Unfortunately, the Ushioda family's house and the Takaku family's house were not open when we visited, so I’ll post only the exterior. After that, I'll post the dolls of the shops I saw.

① This is "Upper Tsuruya", that is, the Ushioda's storehouse (built in 1910).

③ These are the Hina dolls of the Takaku's seen through the window.

④ This is Iseya Ryokan. The Tanaka's have run the inn.
