In this chapter, I'll introduce the fountains in Namiki Park and Chuo Park.

In May, 1976, Tsukuba City held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of Matsumi Park, Doho Park, and Oshimizu Park.

These three parks are said to be the oldest parks in Tsukuba City that were constructed under the Research Academy City Development Project.

Oshimizu Park (which means a park with a big water spring) used to have a large fountain as the name suggests, but now the pond has been filled and the fountain is gone.

Namiki Park, designed by Kunie Ito, was completed in 1974. In fact, Namiki Park is the older park.

There used to be a fountain in Chuo Park next to Tsukuba Station until around 2010, but it was removed due to deterioration.

The students in the Azuma Junior High School Computer Science Club conducted a questionnaire on the water quality of the pond in Chuo Park for students, parents, and residents. One of the answers said, "In the past, there was a fountain, and the water was clean."

In 2018, the club proposed redeveloping a fountain in the Chuo Park Pond to create a flow of water and improve water quality. Based on this proposal, on August 25, 2020, a new fountain was created.
The fountain rises up to 12 meters and is lit up in red, blue and purple at night.

① I’ve come in front of the fountain in Namiki Park.

② The fountain is designed so that the water overflows from the bowl.

③ I'm more interested in the stone pillar than the fountain. It’s very cool around here because of the spray.

④ Boy! Something smells funny.

⑤ "This smell is safe."

⑥ I’m moving downstream of the fountain. In the background you can see the full view of the fountain.

⑦ I’m going along the stream. It's cool here, too.

⑧ I’ll go further along the stream.

⑨ There is a bridge. I’ll cross the bridge, say goodbye to the stream, and go home.

⑩ We’ve arrived at Chuo Park.

⑪ We have to wait till it gets dark.

⑫ Now, I can see the color of the fountain lights.

⑬ It's getting a little dark.

⑭ It's getting darker, and the blue light is beautiful.

⑮ It's finally dark. The fountain is so beautiful. I'm getting sleepy, so I'll be going home soon.

⑯ I said "goodbye" to the fountain in Chuo Park.
