Shiroyama Park (城山公園) is located on the ruins of Motegi Castle (Kikyou Castle 桔梗城) in Yamashiro, Motegi-machi, Tochigi Prefecture.

The moat and earthworks of the Motegi Castle ruins can still be clearly seen today.

Centering around the main castle ruins which overlook the plains, approximately 20% of the vast Motegi Castle ruins are designated as a park.

500,000 Higanbana (red spider lilies) are planted on the 4 ha slope leading to this mountain castle. During Higanbana season, which is called “Higanbana Week”, people who come by car must park at a temporary parking lot about 1km away from the park.

Just after the equinox, I was researching Higanbana at Gugyoji Temple with Dad, when we came across the “Higanbana Week” at Shiroyama Park.

Fortunately, “Higan Week” was extended this year, so, we decided to go to Shiroyama Park to see Higanbana.
