A farmers’ market literally means a style of market where multiple local producers gather to bring in the agricultural products they produce and sell them directly to consumers.

Recently, farmers’ markets have become popular among both farmers and consumers, and we can find some at rest stops, JA sales offices, and supermarket vegetable sections.

There is another type of farmers' market in Tsukuba city called “Village Market Tsukuba”.

It is held every Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00 using food trucks and tents in one of four parks (Kenkyu Gakuen Ekimae Park, Chuo Park, Gakuen no Mori Park, and Oshimizu Park) alternately.

This kind of market creates an extraordinary atmosphere and allows you to enjoy the market in a festive mood.

Among the food truck operators are a couple who have a food truck called “Viajero”, who serve spiced dishes like curry and biryani, and who have traveled around the world two or three times, as well as Ms. HANA, who has traveled to 76 countries around the world, fusing the taste of cuisines from all over the world. Hana runs a food truck called ¡Vamos!, which means "Let's go!" in Spanish.

So, we went to Village Market Tsukuba.

First, we went to one held at Gakuen no Mori Park.

There was a lot of traffic around the park, and by the time we arrived there, it was already past 4 p.m., so the shops were about to close, and they were packing up.

Secondly, we went to one held at Oshimizu Park. (Dec. 17th, 2023). There were 28 shops and 15 food trucks. This time, luckily, we arrived before opening time.

This was supposed to be the end of our visit to the Village Market Tsukuba, but we heard that Santa Claus would appear at the market on Dec. 24th, 2023, so, thirdly, we decided to visit the market at Kenkyu Gakuen Ekimae Park.

To our surprise, there were 49 shops and 22 food trucks this time.

When we arrived at the parking lot, I saw Santa Claus wearing red clothes far away.

When we arrived at the market, however, Santa Claus had disappeared somehow, so I took a commemorative photo in front of the Xmas decorations.
