(249) Ginkgo tree in Tsukuba Expo Park

文字数 1,400文字

The Science Expo Commemorative Park, which was built on the site of the 1985 Science Expo, is the best spot for seeing ginkgo trees in Tsukuba City.

The park's symbol, the “Science Gate”, was completed in January 1988. This is a 10m-high commemorative tower that replicates the 42m-high symbolic tower exhibited by the Japanese government at the time of the Tsukuba Expo at ¼ scale.

The silver balls hanging inside look like the faces of four scientists depending on the direction from which you look at them. (East: Edison, West: Archimedes, South: Newton, North: Galileo)

On the north side of the park, there are three rows of very long ginkgo trees, making it a popular spot. I sometimes go for a walk in Science Expo Commemorative Park.

①This is the “Science Gate.” From here you can see the face of Galileo.

②If you move slightly, you will not be able to see his face.

③The autumn leaves season for ginkgo trees begins when the ginkgo nuts fall. The ginkgo nuts here are edible but small. Dogs cannot eat ginkgo nuts.

④ After ginkgo nuts fall, the leaves of ginkgo trees turn yellow.

⑤ There are parents and children coming to see the row of ginkgo trees.

⑥ These are ginkgo trees seen from the outside.

⑦ This is a photo taken when most of the ginkgo leaves have fallen.

⑧ Next to the row of ginkgo trees, camellia flowers are dropping their petals.
