“Yanaka no Mori(矢中の杜)'' is a modern Japanese-style house built by Yanaka Ryujiro in the Hojo district of Tsukuba City in the early Showa period. Yanaka Ryujiro was a building materials researcher and businessman.
Preservation efforts began in 2008, and the mansion “Yanaka no Mori” is open to the public every Saturday.
On September 25, 2023, "Yanaka no Mori" was designated as an important cultural property.
Dogs are not allowed inside the house, but we thought we could take a look at the exterior, so we went there.
There is no parking lot at Yanaka no Mori, so we walked from the Hojo shopping street parking lot. In this chapter, I’ll also introduce the scenery along the way.
In chapter 278: Doll's Festival at Makabe-machi (2), I introduced “Misegura” in Makabe-machi. A misegura is a building that doubles as a store and a residence.
There are three misegura in the Hojo area as well: the former Tamura kimono misegura, the Miyamoto family soy sauce misegura, and the Otsuka family misegura. The former two misegura are registered tangible cultural properties of the country.
In addition, the former Tamura kimono misegura is now the “Hojo Fureaikan(北条ふれあい館)” and a base for sightseeing in the Hojo area.

At the end of the street is Yasaka Shrine, the home of the guardian deity of the Hojo area.
Let's start our walk from the parking lot.
① Hojo Fureaikan, the former Tamura Kimono misegura, came into view. Halloween decorations are placed in the window display.
