(453) Hinamatsuri

Among the Hinamatsuri (Doll Festivals) in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, the "Hinamatsuri in Makabe (Sakuragawa City)" and the "Hinamatsuri in Tsuchiura (Tsuchiura City)" are famous.
I previously introduced them in chapters 277, 278, 279, 282 and 285.

Tsukuba City, where I live, doesn’t have any Doll Festivals as a city event, but hina dolls are on display in some hotels, shops and old folk houses.

The hina dolls at Sakura Folk House (さくら民家園) in Chuo Park next to Tsukuba Station are popular. When Dad went there to see the hina dolls the other day, he found out that the old folk house has been closed to entry since November 2023, and he could see no hina dolls there.

Instead, he was able to find a seven-tiered hina doll set at the nearby Nikko Hotel (日航ホテル) in Tsukuba Center Building.

So, we gave up on looking for hina dolls in Tsukuba and went to see the ones in Tsuchiura again. This time, Dad's camera was out of battery, so he could only take pictures with his smartphone.

At some photo studios, children can have their photos taken wearing the same simple version of “Juni-hitoe'' costumes as the dolls wear. At the Doll Festival in Tsuchiura, there is also an event for adults to have their photos taken wearing real Juni-hitoe costumes. (It costs a lot, though.)

※Juni-hitoe refers to a twelve-layered kimono worn by noble women during the Heian Era.

Unfortunately, neither is intended for dogs, so, with the help of Bing, Dad tried making a photo of me wearing a Juni-Hitoe. Mr. Bing couldn't understand Juni-Hitoe, so he ended up with a photo of me wearing a normal kimono.

① This is a doll display of Sakura Folk House that Dad photographed in 2020.

② This is Sakura Folk House in 2024. The plum blossoms are beautiful, but dogs are not allowed inside.

③ This is a photo of the Hina dolls at the nearby Nikko Hotel.

④ This is a close-up photo of the Hina dolls at the Nikko Hotel.

⑤ We went to see the dolls at Mr. S's house in Tsuchiura this year, too.

⑥ Mr. S says that it takes his wife three days to arrange all the hina dolls.

⑦ This is our second visit, but no matter how many times I look at these dolls or how many hours I look at them, I never get tired of them.

⑧ With the help of Bing, Dad made a photo of me wearing a Juni-Hitoe, but it turned out to be a normal kimono. Pink, pink, pink. Everything is pink. So, I look more like a Barbie doll than a Hina doll. (#^.^#)
