Michi-no-Eki “Makuraganosato Koga” is a rest stop that opened on July 7, 2013.
The concept is "delicious and fun". This rest stop is located near Route 4 and is often used by long-distance truck drivers.
"Makuraga" is a decorative word used in classical Japanese literature (枕詞) that has been used since ancient times to refer to the area around Koga. This name was chosen from public submissions.
This rest stop puts more emphasis on filling your stomach rather than on sights and attractions. Local vegetables are also fresh and inexpensive. It's perfect for a foodie like me.
The specialty of this roadside station is the mega serving tempura rice bowl. Looking at the picture online, it looks very delicious, so we went to “Makuraganosato Koga” to eat the mega-sized tempura bowl.
This rest stop consists of an eating space (local production for local-consumption food court and delicatessen named Keyaki) and shops (Koga Marche and a souvenir shop). Between the eating space and the shop is the center of the building, and there is a multi-purpose hall.
From Nov. 19th to Dec. 25th, 2022, the "Yukihana Tree" was on display in the multipurpose hall.
The "Yukihana Tree" is an 8-meter-tall Ujiro fir Christmas tree decorated with ornaments of Koga's symbol "Yukihana(雪華)" and the city flower "Hana peach (ハナモモ)".
Dogs are not allowed inside the roadside station, so unfortunately I couldn't see the "Yukihana Tree".

⑦I’m eating the shrimp tail from the tempura bowl. I can only eat shrimp tail. It’s unbelievably delicious.
⑧I’m full. Now we’ll take a walk and get back to the car.
