(372) Lantern Festival at the Ruins

The Hirasawa Kangai Ruins(平沢官衙遺跡), located in Tsukuba City, is a representative site of a local government office, presumed to be the Shoso(正倉) of Tsukuba County, Hitachi Province during the Nara and Heian periods.
Shoso(正倉) refers to warehouses for storage of grain and goods installed in public facilities such as central and local government offices and temples under the Ritsuryo system.
The Hirasawa government office ruins have already been introduced in "Chapter 275 Nara Dog".
On August 19th, we went to see the “Manto Summer Festival(万灯夏祭り)”, which was held at the ruins with dozens of lanterns. The pictures on the covers of the lanterns were painted by the students of a nearby elementary school.
