“Haru Ichiban (春一番)'' is the very first strong southern wind of the year in Japan (between the first day of spring and the vernal equinox). And it marks the beginning of the spring season.

This year, 2024, Haru Ichiban blew on February 15th.

In mid-March, a strong cold north wind blew.

The weather forecast for that day predicted wind speeds of 10 meters per second, so we had no choice but to postpone our planned excursion.

I heard on the news that a truck overturned due to fierce winds, so I'm glad we didn't go on a short trip.

Although the wind was strong, we went for a walk in a nearby park as usual.

① I’m feeling bored because our short trip has been canceled.

② I’m asking Dad to go for a walk.

③ We’ve arrived at a nearby park.

④ Now, we’ll leave the park and head home.

⑤ Branches and leaves that fell due to the strong wind are scattered.

⑥ There are fallen leaves here, too.

⑦ We are getting closer to home.

⑧ In the children's park, nanohana (canola flower, 菜の花) are blooming.

⑨ The Chinese chives and snow willows are starting to bloom. Spring is around the corner.
