(158) I eat lunch at Biwa Club

As of June 2022, there are 1194 rest stops (道の駅) in Japan. But only two rest stops have the name "Club": "Michi-no-Eki Tomiura Biwa Club" and "Michi-no-Eki Otsu no Sato Hana Club" in Minami Boso City, Chiba Prefecture. ”Club” is a sophisticated name, isn’t it?

Biwa Club is a charismatic rest stop and is considered to be a model for regional revitalization. Therefore, many visitors come here to see how an area can be revitalized.

Of course, charisma refers to a person, so the rest stop itself cannot be charismatic. The Biwa Club was conceived by Fumio Kato, a staff member of the former Tomiura Town Hall (currently Minami Boso City), and opened in 1993.

In 2000, it was selected as the highest award-winning rest stop in the "National Rest Stop Grand Prix 2000".

Mr. Kato was the first director of the rest stop, and in November 2004, he was selected as one of the top 100 tourist promoters, sponsored by the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. He is now involved in the international cooperation project.

Biwa Club is an enormous rest stop. There are many terrace seats where dogs can eat, and the garden is very large. This time, I would like to introduce the building and terrace seats. Let me introduce its garden next time.

This is the front of the building of Biwa Club. The flowers are beautiful. On the left, umbrellas cover terrace seats.

This is the back of the Biwa Club. The flowers are even more beautiful.

This is the terrace seat where we ate lunch.

I’m having lunch on the terrace. The restaurant gives me water.

I’m looking up because I want to know what Mom and Dad are eating.

I’m taking a break after eating lunch.
