”Kuri no Ie (栗のいえ a chestnut house)” is an old folk house, Western confectionery shop, and cafe restaurant located in Haji(土師), Kasama City.
There are terrace seats, so we went there.
The patissier at “Kuri no Ie” has worked at famous restaurants such as “Au Bon Vieux Temp” and “Pierre Gagnaire” in Tokyo.
“Au Bon Vieux Temp” is a restaurant opened in Tokyo by Chef Kawata Katsuhiko, who studied in France. “Pierre Gagnaire” is owned by an avant-garde French chef of the same name who owns a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in France. He has a restaurant in Tokyo, too.
The concept of “Kuri no Ie” is to enjoy the special sweets at the 130-year-old Haji village chief's house while looking out at the beautiful garden.
There are many Mont Blanc cake shops in Kasama.
The most popular sweet in “Kuri no Ie” is "Atago Kobore Mont Blanc cake (愛宕こぼれモンブラン)".
It is said that Mt. Atago (愛宕山 306m above sea level) , which is near Kuri no Ie, was once home to a training place for Tengu(天狗), along with Mt. Tsukuba and Mt. Kaba. Atago Shrine, located on the top of Mt. Atago, is one of Japan's three major fire prevention shrines.
