(467) Carrot field and me

文字数 1,855文字

There is a dog toy called "Carrot Field", which has multiple holes in a carrot field mat. And carrot-shaped cushions are in the holes.

You can place a scented treat in one of the holes and cover with a carrot cushion.
Your dog uses its nose to find the hole containing the treat, pulls out the carrot, and can eat the treat.

The act of finding the hole containing a treat by smell is called “nose work”.
Nose work is said to improve the dog's mental and physical health.

Mom's friend's toy poodle loves this toy, so she decided to buy one to let me try playing with a carrot field as well.

The area around a dog's mouth to the tip of its nose is called the muzzle.

For reference:
・Dog breeds with long muzzles: Italian Greyhounds, Dachshunds, etc.
・Dog breeds with slightly short muzzles: Corgis, Labrador Retrievers, Toy Poodles, Shiba Inus, etc.
・Dog breeds with extremely short muzzles: Pugs, Bulldogs, Pomeranians, etc.

If you're a quick thinker, you've already noticed that Pugs and Bulldogs would have a tough time getting treats out of the carrot holes.

The instructions for the carrot field say,” The size of the carrot hole is 5 cm in diameter and 6 cm deep. Please adjust the hole by raising the bottom to match the size of your dog's muzzle.''
Chihuahuas like me have short muzzles.

So, I found that nose work in the carrot field causes me stress instead of relieving stress unless Mom or Dad changes the depth of the holes. (´;ω;`)

① This is the carrot field Dad bought for me online.

② I smell something.

③ The source of the smell seems to be the carrot, not the mat.

④ This carrot smells.

⑤ I’ve pulled out the carrot and am putting my nose in the hole.

⑥ My mouth can't reach the bottom of the hole.

⑦ I’ve taken out the snack with some difficulty. It is a venison snack!!

⑧ I'm eating it. Yummy!
