Michi-no-eki (or rest stop) is a place where long-distance drivers take a break and usually has a farmer's market and a restaurant. Many restaurants have terrace seats. At Michi-no-eki, dogs are allowed outside the building, so we often use Michi-no-eki.

In recent years, more and more Michi-no-eki have been designed to entertain people with restaurants, stages, and dog runs.

“Michi-no-Eki Kawaba Den-en Plaza”, which I posted in “Chapter 221, is one of the newer-type rest stops.

On the way back from our trip to Nasu, we saw a traffic guide for a new rest stop called "Grand Terrace Chikusei."

When we looked it up, we saw that "Grand Terrace Chikusei" opened in July 2019 along National Route 50 Shimodate Bypass as the 14th Rest Stop in Ibaraki Prefecture.

The catchphrase is "Northern Kanto's largest compound type 'hybrid rest stop' that can be enjoyed by three generations."

There seems to be a dog run, so we went there.

① This is the plaza with the surrounding shops. The second floor in front is a connecting deck. There is a food court and terrace seats on the left. We’ve decided to have lunch here.

② I’m waiting for lunch at the terrace seat.

③ After eating lunch, I'm exploring the rest stop. You can see the dog run in the back.

④ The small dog in the background is a Chihuahua. He is wearing goggles instead of sunglasses. At this rest stop, I met 10 dogs, 8 of which were Chihuahuas!!

⑤ I’m in front of Dodan Tsutsuji (Enkianthus perulatus).

⑥ This is Mt. Tsukuba, seen from the connecting deck.

⑦ I’m sitting on a bench on the deck.

⑧ I came down from the deck. You can see Mt. Tsukuba well without getting on the deck. It was great to meet so many Chihuahuas at this rest stop.
