(403) Cosmos at Doho Park (3)

文字数 2,632文字

Recently, my favorite walking park is full of weeds and is no longer suitable for walking, so I’ve been taking more walks in Doho Park.

In this chapter, I’ll introduce what I saw during four of my walks.

In early October, the cosmos flowers seemed to have stopped blooming, but once the orange flowers faded, white and pink flowers began to bloom, regaining momentum.
A lot of butterflies and moths come here.

One of the butterflies is “Argyreus hyperbius(ツマグロヒョウモン)”, which has leopard print wings and it is written in kanji as “褄黒豹紋 (sleeve black leopard pattern)''.

“Macroglossum bombylans(ヒメクロホウジャク)” is a moth in the family Sphingidae (スズメガ科). The adult moths are active during the day, hovering in the air and sucking nectar from flowers.

The famous hummingbird(ハチドリ) in the United States performs a hovering flight in which it flaps its wings at a high speed about 55 to 80 times per second, and stays still in the air.

The Macroglossum bombylans flaps its wings 70 to 90 times per second and can fly at speeds of up to 50km/h.

At the end of the chapter, I posted a photo of two Macroglossu bombylans hovering in a cosmos flower bed, so please enjoy it.
