(43) Sesshoseki Park in Nasu

文字数 1,088文字

Sesshoseki in Nasu is black volcanic rock in a valley with hot springs called Jigokudani.

I'm not sure about hell, but it seems to mean a place where there are no creatures. It's a little scary, but I have never been to a valley with hot springs, so I went to Sesshoseki Park with Mom and Dad.

It smelled of sulfur and the air wasn't very good, but it was nice because there was a promenade and I was able to take a walk. However, there was nothing colorful there, so it turned out to be a dull photo.

According to a commentary, a poet, Matsuo Basho, who had been to the mountain temple (Yamadera) which we climbed, also came here a long time ago.

He made a poem, “ishi no kaya natsukusa akaku tsuyu atsushi (石の香や 夏草赤く 露あつし)” , which means, “Sesshoseki stones have a sulfur odor, and the summer grass that should be green has withered red, and the dew that should be cool is boiling hot.”

Ms. Merci walking dashingly in Sesshoseki Park

Ms. Merci liked the promenade.
What you can see in the back is a place where Yunohana (sulfur) was mined a long time ago.
