(319) I climb Asahi Mountain Pass

This chapter is a story of when we went to Komachi no Sato (see chapter 316). The Komachi no Sato parking lot was divided into two: one for Komachi no Sato visitors and the other for hikers.
Many cars were parked in the parking lot for hikers, but not a single car was parked in the visitor parking lot, so we were the first ones there.

In other words, the hiking course starting from the Komachi no Sato is popular. From 2020 to 2021, volunteers have expanded the mountain trails, and the old one course has now expanded to five courses, with more than 100,000 people visiting each year.

Tsuchiura City Agricultural Public Corporation introduces the hiking course to Asahi Mountain Pass View Park as follows:

From Komachi no Sato, climb the mountain pass that Ono no Komachi is said to have walked. And when you pass through “Komorebi no Mori (Forest of sunbeams filtering through foliage)”, you'll arrive at the observation deck of Asahi Pass View Park.

From the observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Mt. Tsukuba, Lake Kasumigaura, Tokyo Sky Tree, and the skyscrapers of Shinjuku Subcenter.

From Komachi no Sato to Asahi Pass View Park (302m above sea level), it is a course for beginners and children with a distance of 2.2km one way and takes about an hour and a half round-trip.

Compared to Mt. Hokyo (416m), which I climbed (see chapter 32), Asahi Pass seems to be easier for beginners and children. Above all, at Komachi no Sato, elderly hikers walked past us, looking very comfortable, so it looked like we could climb it.

Therefore, Mom and Dad planned a hike to Asahi Pass and ordered trekking poles online.
After the trekking poles arrived, Mom began to worry, saying, "I haven't walked long distances lately, so I wonder if I can make it."

After researching, Dad found that there was a parking lot on the west side of Asahi Pass View Park, and that we could go there by car, too. If we walk from there, the observation deck of the park is just around the corner. Therefore, we decided to go there by car this time.

The altitude of the Asahi Pass View Park parking lot is 262m, and the observation deck is 302m, so we only needed to ascend 40m.

The altitude of the Komachi no Sato parking lot is 35m, so if you climb Asahi Pass(302m), you have to go up 267m.

In this way, our hike to Asahi Pass view Park became a mini hike (40m), like a mini pilgrimage.

Dad posted a video of me at the park on You Tube.
The video is unedited, but you can hear a voice of the warbler.
