There are very few museums that allow dogs to enter, so I don't have many opportunities to appreciate art.

Fortunately, in 2023, the University of Tsukuba is holding an outdoor event called "Tsukuba Art & Design Street 2023," so I have more opportunities to appreciate art.

You can see parts of "Tsukuba Arts Art & Design Street 2023" in chapter 383, 385 and 386.
From Oct. 27th to Nov. 19th, Misaki Haruta displayed an installation called "ART PARK Tsukuba 2023 in Ninomiya Park ~Retracing Memories~''. So, we went to Ninomiya Park to see it.

"Installation”, or ”Installation Art” refers to a method of treating an exhibition space as a work of art. It is a method of expression characteristic of contemporary art that emerged in the 1970s and is different from traditional painting and sculpture.

Gunma Prefecture's “Nakanojo Biennale”, held every other year, is famous for contemporary art events.

In 2023, 125 artists participated in 44 venues in 5 areas of Nakanojo, and about 480,000 people visited there.

The venue included a closed elementary school, too.

Haruta Misaki has participated in the Nakanojo Biennale three times in a row since 2019. She was selected for the 23rd Okamoto Taro Contemporary Art Award in 2020.

She also won the “Cultus TSUKUHA Award” in 2022 for her work “Underwater Vortex”.

"Retracing Memories" is Haruta Misaki's first installation in an outdoor space and was displayed in two parts: to the east and west of the baseball field in Ninomiya Park.

She always creates her works with the following intentions in mind:
【I create works based on what can only be felt at that time, and the scenery that can only be felt on the spot. We mainly produce works using raxa rolls. We will use various materials depending on the concept of the work. I aim to create works that allow the viewer to experience what I see and feel through the painting space. 】

① This is the "Retracing Memories" signboard on the west side of the baseball field. A design like the “Underwater Vortex'' is used.

② The installation starts next to the signboard.

③ In the installation, I'll become a part of her work. It seems strange.

④ We’ll go deeper into the forest.

⑤ I’ve fully become a part of the installation.

⑥ The installation bathed in the setting sun is wonderful.

⑦ I’m walking in the sunset.

⑧ I'm not good at kanji (Chinese character). When I asked Dad, he said it reads as “weather.'' So, I wonder if these pictures mean sunny, cloudy, or rainy.

⑨ It's in the shadow, so I can't see clearly.

⑩ I’m running at full speed in front of the installation.

⑪ This is a rabbit, isn't it?

⑫ I wonder what this represents,

⑬ I’ll go back and forth in the forest.

⑭ Are these waves?

⑮ You can see a face on the left tree. I wonder what face it is.

⑯ It seems like I’ve come full circle.

⑰ This is the plate near the exit. It looks like a school or a hospital.

⑱ This is the end of the exhibition on the west side. Now, we'll head to the east.

⑲ You can see the exhibit on the east side.

⑳ Let's get closer to the exhibit.

㉑ This part of the exhibition is installed on the fence.

㉒ I'm in front of the exhibit on the east side.

㉓ This is a part of the exhibition near the parking lot. It looks like macarons. We’ll now return to the parking lot.

㉔ In the gallery in front of the parking lot, Haruta Misaki's works, such as “Underwater Vortex'', are displayed and are on sale.
