(517) Blueberry Picking

Ibaraki Prefecture is one of the leading producers of blueberries in Japan, and there are many blueberry farms, mainly in Kasumigaura City, Tsukuba City, and Omitama City.

Previously I introduced the blueberry fields of Okano Farm in Ishioka City in chapter 353.
Tsukuba City, where I live, is counted as one of the "three major blueberry producing areas in Japan" (others are Kodaira City in Tokyo, and Hokuto City in Yamanashi Prefecture). So, this time, we went blueberry picking at Aonisai Farm in Tsukuba City.

This farm grows 23 varieties of blueberries (about 900 stalks in total) with different ripening periods. 60% of the blueberries are "highbush blueberries," which have large berries that ripen from June to mid-July, and 40% are "rabbiteye blueberries," which ripen from mid-July to mid-August and are very sweet.

That means if it’s mid-July, you can enjoy both varieties.

Just thinking about it makes me salivate with excitement.

① We've arrived at Aonisai Farm.

② I'm waiting on the table while Mom pays the entrance fee.

③ This is the entrance to the blueberry farm. It's as exciting to me as Aladdin's magic cave.

④ This is the view when you open the door. There are rows of blueberry pots on both sides.

⑤ These are delicious looking blueberries.

⑥ This is a view of the blueberry farm. The varieties with different harvest times are arranged from the back to the front so that they will ripen in order. In mid-July, the variety in the center of the farm where the table is located was fully ripe.

⑦ I'm on the table. In the farm, dogs are required to rest either in their owner’s arms or on the table.

⑧ There are red blueberries.

⑨ They're a variety called Florida Rose.

⑩ I'm in front of blueberries.

⑪ I'm tasting blueberries. They're extremely sweet.

⑫ I'm tired from being carried, so I'm going to rest in the break room.

⑬ I'm resting. Mom picked the pack of blueberries.

⑭ I'm sniffing the blueberries.

⑮ There are two packs to take home.

⑯ It's about time to leave Aonisai Farm.

⑰ There is a dog run next to the parking lot.

⑱ I'm happy to be at a dog run for the first time in a while.

⑲ The grass has grown so long that it's a little difficult to run.

⑳ I'm happy that I was able to run.

㉑ I'm eating the blueberries I brought home. Yummy!!

㉒ There's only one left.
