Since Kasama Inari Shrine is on the way back from the Motegi rest stop, we stopped by Kasama Inari, which is famous for its two 400-year-old wisteria trellises.

I previously introduced Kasama Inari in chapter 295, but at that time it was March, and the wisteria flowers weren't in bloom.

This time, we were able to see the wisteria flowers there.

The "Yae no fuji (八重の藤, fuji means wisteria)" on the grounds of the shrine has a trunk circumference of approximately 3.55 meters and branches extending approximately 15 meters, making it the largest in Ibaraki Prefecture, and was designated as a natural monument of Ibaraki Prefecture in 1967. "Yae no fuji'' is a rare variety that produces flowers that resemble bunches of grapes but doesn't produce seeds.

The other wisteria tree, "Oo fuji (大藤, Big Wisteria)'' has single-flowered spikes that are up to one meter long. “Oo fuji” often appears in photos of Kasama Inari.

By the way, Dad was careless. Of the two wisteria trees, the one where a lot of people gathered was under the “Oo fuji''. No one was under the “Yae no fuji''. Therefore, Dad thought that the “Yae no fuji'' wasn't in bloom, so we returned home without seeing it up close.

However, he found out later that someone had posted "the small blossoms of Yae no fuji" on her blog on April 26, 2024.
