(534) Sakura Traffic Park

I’ve introduced most of the large parks in Tsukuba City, but there is one large park that I haven’t introduced yet. That is ”Sakura Traffic Park”, so I’ll introduce it in this chapter.

The name "Sakura" comes from the fact that the park was in Sakura Village( which was part of Tsukuba City) before the name was changed into "Tsukuba City". "Traffic Park" means a park where you can learn traffic manners.

There is a go-kart course, and there are traffic lights for education. You can rent a go-kart for a fee, but you can also bring your own bicycle and ride on the course.

The first car (Hino RA100P) of the former JNR (Japanese National Railways) Tomei Highway Bus (Dream) is on display in the park. It was manufactured to coincide with the opening of the Tomei Expressway and ran 1,374,021 km (≒34 times around the earth) on the Tomei and Meishin Expressways in the 8 years and 4 months from February 1969 to June 1977.

It is said that Ito Kunie designed the administration building of this park with Amsterdam Central Station in mind.

On the station platform leading from the Amsterdam-style station building, D5170 (the 70th car of the "Degoichi" D51 type) is on display. From 1937 until its retirement in 1975, it ran 2,878,164 km (≒72 times around the earth) on the Sanyo Main Line in Okayama and in Hokkaido. It traveled twice as far as the highway bus, and it took 38 years.

Previously, on the rails next to D5170, a former JNR (Japanese National Railways) Kiha 04 type diesel railcar (mechanical diesel railcar) used on the Tsukuba Railway was on display. Currently, this diesel railcar is housed at the Railway Museum in Saitama Prefecture.

As you can see, Sakura Traffic Park is an extremely attractive park, but there is one problem: It’s the only park that doesn’t allow dogs in Tsukuba City. Therefore, this time, while I was resting in a nearby park, Dad took some photos of Sakura Traffic Park, and I’ll explain the photos.

① This is the gate to Sakura Traffic Park. You can see the "No Pets" sign. In the background, you can see the steam locomotive and the management building.

② Now, I’ll show you around the park as the stationmaster for a day. This photo was taken with the help of Bing.

③ This is D5170. On the right rail, a Tsukuba Railway Kiha 04 diesel railcar used to be on display.

④ This is a station sign. The names of the neighboring stations are not written.

⑤ The driver's cab of D5170 is open to the public. Now, my avatar will be riding in it.

⑥ You can see the driver's seat and the coal inlet.

⑦ This is the view from the driver's seat. The front window is circular, like a small boat.

⑧ This is a go-kart course. Some children are riding bicycles.

⑨ This is an educational traffic light. It looks like the real thing, but it’s a little smaller and slightly different.

⑩ This is the first car of the Tomei Highway Bus (Dream).

⑪ This is the administration building, modeled after Amsterdam Central Station.

⑫ This should be the best angle for the administration building, but the roof is hidden by August leaves.

⑬ This is a photo taken last November. The weathervane is lovely.

⑭ Dad edited the photo to make it look like a pastel painting.

⑮ While Daddy is taking photos, I'm resting in a nearby park.

⑯ The grass is cool and pleasant.

⑰ I've started playing with the leaves.

⑱ I'm pulling clover with my mouth.

⑲ I'm trying to swallow a clover flower.

⑳ It wasn’t tasty.

㉑ I wish Daddy would come back soon. I'm getting a little bored.
