The next evening, I went to Doc’s laboratory.
次の日の夕方、ぼくは茶トラ先生の実験室へ行った

Unusually, Doc was not doing an experiment.
めずらしく実験はしていなくて

Rather, he was counting a wad of bills.
札束を数えていた

“I can’t imagine how much it costs to go to the medical school hospital by taxi.”
タクシーで大学病院まで、いくら掛かるか想像もできん

Then we were to go fifty years into the future.
それからともかく、ぼくらは５０年後の未来へと出発することにした

Doc set the date and time of the Time Age Machine
茶トラ先生はマシンの日付と時間をセットした

that we promised with Arisa.
それは妹とまた会うと約束した日時だ

So we got in the Machine and Doc pushed the start button.
それでぼくらはマシンに入り、茶トラ先生はスタートボタンを押した

But soon after that,
だけどそれからすぐに

we heard a 'bang'
バンという音がして

and the Machine stopped.
マシンは止まった

Then we smelled something burning.
それに焦げ臭かった

“Oh my god!
何たること！

The Machine might short-circuit.
マシンがショートしておる

Ichiro, you can fix it!”
イチロウ、出番だ！
