Then my father came out of the toilet
それからお父さんはトイレから出てきて

and walked to the apron
そして駐機場へ向かった

holding the transmitter while whistling.
口笛を吹きながら、送信機を持って

And as soon as he arrived,
そしておとうさんがそこに着くと

he started talking to one of his staff
お父さんはスタッフの一人と話し始めた

and other staff were busy preparing the planes for the flight.
そして他のスタッフは、飛行機の周りでデモフライトの準備に余念がないようだった

Then five or six people, most of whom were fat,
それから５，６人の太った人たちが

behaved with an air of importance
偉そうに振る舞いながら

and were smoking cigars
そして葉巻を吸いながら

arrived at the apron
駐機場に到着した

and sat on the folding chairs
そして折りたたみ椅子に座った

that had been prepared for them.
それらは彼らのために準備されていたものだった

I thought they must be
それでぼくは考えた　彼らはきっと

the top executives of the company,
相手企業のお偉いさんたちで

which wanted to buy the R.C Auto-pilot system.
ラジコンの自動操縦装置を買いたがっているのだ

Anyhow, Doc’s binoculars gave us fantastic field of view!
ともかく、茶トラ先生の双眼鏡はよく見える！

And after a while,
それから少しして

my father made a gesture of thumbs up.
お父さんは親指を立て、ゴーサインを出した

Then one of the staff started the engine of R.C. aircraft number ‘1’.
それでスタッフの一人が１号機のエンジンをスタート

So we could see the exhaust smoke.
すると飛行機から排気の煙が見えた

And my father controlled the aircraft as it began to taxi
そしてお父さんは操縦し、飛行機は動き始め
（taxi は飛行機が滑走路まで移動するという意味）

to the end of the runway,
滑走路の端まで向かい

then turned and stopped.
そして向きを変え止まった

It seemed that the aircraft was cleared for takeoff.
当機はまもなく離陸いたしますって感じ

Soon after that, we heard a loud ‘Boom’
それからすぐに「ブーン」という音が聞こえ

and the aircraft took off beautifully
飛行機は見事に離陸し

and kept on flying stably
安定して飛び続けた

for a while.
しばらくのあいだ

So I was looking at the aircraft with naked eyes
それでぼくは肉眼で飛行機を見たり

and my father with the binoculars
双眼鏡でお父さんを見たりした

in turn.
交互に

I could see him controlling the aircraft
見ていると、お父さんが飛行機をコントロールしている様子だった

moving the sticks of the transmitter.
送信機のスティックを動かしながら

Then my father flicked a switch
それからお父さんは一つのスイッチをパチンと動かした

in the left anterior
それは左前方にある

of the transmitter
送信機の

and this was surprising enough,
しかも驚いたことに

but he put the transmitter on the ground
なんとお父さんは、それから送信機を地面に置き

and dangled his hands by his side!
手をぶらぶらさせた！
