大変だ大変だ！

I was so surprised and ran back to Doc’s laboratory.
ぼくはぶったまげて、茶トラ先生の実験室へとってかえした

And when arrived, I felt short of breath,
着いたとき、息は切れて

my mouth was dried-up
口はからからで

and my voice rattled.
声はめろめろだった


“Hey. Hey. Doc! My father died!
茶トラ先生！！　おおお、父さんが死んじゃった！！

A wake is being held in my house!”
ぼくんちで御通夜やってんだ！

“Is it true?”
それは本当か？


So I told him the situation at my house
それでぼくは家の状況を話した

and he was also astonished,
そしたら茶トラ先生も驚いて

but soon became calm
でもすぐに冷静になり

and finally said.
そして言った

“Then we must investigate
それなら調べねばなるまい

in the circumstances.”
状況を

“Oh, what should we investigate?”
え！　何を調べるの？

“Anyhow, get in the Machine.”
ともあれ、マシンに入れ

“Why?”
どうして？

“Don’t worry. I have an idea.”
いいからいいから。わしに考えがある

“You have an idea?”
考え？


So I got in the Machine.
それでぼくはマシンに入った

And soon after, the Machine began to zoom,
そしてマシンがぶーぶーいいだすと

I felt slightly warm
ぼくは暖かくなり

and so forth.
等々

Then, I turned into a middle-aged man
するとぼくは中年男にされていた

though I didn’t know why.
なぜだかわかんないけれど

So I got out and said,
それでぼくはマシンから出て言った

“Why did you turn me into a…”
どうしてぼくを…

“Now you are thirty years old.”
お前さんは３０歳だ

“Why?”
どうして？

“Don’t worry. I told you I have an idea.”
いいからいいから　考えがあると言っただろう

“OK. I got it.”
ＯＫ　分かったよ

“Well, we should prepare a pair of suits to wear to the wake.”
さて、通夜に着ていくための喪服を二着用意せねば

So, Doc went inside the house
それで茶トラ先生は家の奥へ行き

and fetched a pair of suits.
スーツを二着持ってきた

One was white and the other was red!
白と赤

“Well, such colors must be out of place.”
あ～、こんな色は場違いだな

Doc said.
茶トラ先生は言った

“So I’m going to paint them black.”
だからこいつを真っ黒に塗装する

“You mean you can paint these suits?”
服を塗装だって？
