タイムマシン作動

So I opened the curtain of the machine
それからぼくはマシンのカーテンをあけて

and got in.
中に入った

Then Doc came after me
茶トラ先生も後に続いた

handing a small box,
小さな箱を持って

which seemed to be a wireless control for the Machine.
きっとマシンのリモコンだ

And he closed the curtain
そして茶トラ先生がカーテンを閉じて

then operated the control box
リモコンを操作し

flicking switches and moving knobs
スイッチやレバーを動かして

before entering Aug. 24th 8:00pm
それから８月２４日午後８時と入力し

and pushed the start button.
そしてスタートボタンを押した


So the ‘Time Machine function’ was going to operate.
それで「タイムマシン機能」が、まさに動こうとした

Then the Machine began to zoom
それからマシンがぶーぶーいいはじめ

and, to my amazement,
そして驚いたことに

the afternoon sun seen through the gap of the curtain began to move.
カーテンの隙間から見えた西日が動き始めた

It moved faster and faster
それはどんどん速くなり

until it sank in the west.
やがて太陽は西に沈み

Then it became night.
夜になった

But it soon dawned.
でもすぐに夜が明けた

Then it became night once again
そしてもう一度夜になった

and soon dawned
そしてすぐに朝が来た

and so forth.
などなど


And it became even faster.
そしてそれはさらに速くなった

Outside the Machine,
マシンの外では

it became darker or brighter very quickly
ものすごい速さで暗くなったり明るくなったりしていた

nearly thirty times
３０回近く

before it slowed down
やがてそれが遅くなり

and the Machine stopped.
マシンは止まった

“Now we’re at August 24th.”
よし、８月２４日へ到着だ

Then Doc said.
茶トラ先生は言った
