決闘の日

The day had come.
その日がやってきた

I continued to practice diligently 1.2.1.2.1.2…
ぼくはまじめに１２１２と練習した

But there was something so mysterious.
だけど不思議なことがあった

Doc had taught me Karate,
茶トラ先生はぼくに空手を教えてるのに

so why did I have to join the Dojo?
どうしてぼくは道場に入門しなきゃいけなかったの？

The practice doesn't begin until early September.
練習は９月まで始まらないのに

It was too late!
遅い！


After making sure that Doc was at home with the walky-talky he’d invented,
ケイタイ無線機でいることを確認してから

I went to his laboratory on my bike about noon.
昼ごろ自転車で茶トラ先生の実験室へ行った

At first I thought Doc was doing some experiment
茶トラ先生は実験でもしているのかと思ったら

but he was waiting for me wearing old-fashioned Karate wear
古びた空手着を着てぼくを待っていた

and said with conviction,
そして嬉しそうに言った

“Well, it’s the day of the duel!”
いよいよ決闘だな！

Doc seemed to be enjoying it.
茶トラ先生は嬉しそう

But I felt so bad
でもぼくは気分悪い

and had to ask him something.
そして訊きたいこともあった

“Well, I must fight Devil today.
今日はデビルと決闘だよね

So why did I join the Dojo when the master is away traveling the Himalayas?
だったらどうしてぼくは、道場の親分がヒマラヤ旅行中の道場に入門させられたの？

There’s no point in it!”
意味ないじゃん！

“You’re smart to notice it.”
よく分かったな

“It’s quite obvious!”
あたりまえじゃん！

“Now listen.
よいか、よく聞け

Swear that you will practice Karate for years at Dr. Gestalt’s Dojo.
ゲシュタルト先生のところで数年間空手の練習をやると誓え

You must swear sincerely!”
心から誓うんだ

“Why?”
どうして？

“Just swear you'll do it!”
とにかくそうすると誓え！

“OK. I swear sincerely… Now what?”
わかったよ　心から誓う…　で？

“Then get in the Machine.”
マシンに入れ

“Well, how old am I going to be this time?”
今度はぼくをいくつにするの？

“Twenty.”
二十歳だ

So I went into the Machine to be twenty years old.
それでマシンに入り二十歳にされた

And I was really astonished to see myself in the mirror of the Machine.
そしてマシンの鏡を見てぼくはぶったまげた

I looked so strong.
ぼく強そう

I could see amazing muscles in my arms.
腕にすごい筋肉　ぼくマッチョじゃん

“Wow. What’s happened to me?”
わお！　これってどうなったの？
