ことのはじめ

My name is Ichiro Suzuki.
ぼくはの名は鈴木一郎

I’m an ordinary high school student.
平凡な高校生だ

I have a close friend
ぼくには親友がいる

whose name is Dr. Brown Tabby.
その名は「茶トラ先生」
（Tabby cat はトラ猫）

You might be thinking that
みんなは思うかもしれないね

he must be a cat
先生、きっと猫だって

but actually he is't a cat.
だけど実際には猫じゃない

He is really a great scientist!
先生は偉大な科学者だ

He once was a professor
先生はかつて教授だった

at a famous university
某有名大学の

where he had great achievements
そこで先生は大変な業績を挙げた

and was considered to be in the same league as Einstein.
それはアインシュタインとタメを張るほどのすごいこと

On the other hand,
その一方

he was known to be quite an ‘eccentric guy’.
先生は豪快に「変人」として名を轟かせていた

So the other professors saw him as trouble
それで他の教授たちは茶トラ先生をトラブルメーカーと考え

and considered him to be a burden;
厄介者とみなし

finally they expelled him from the university.
最終的に大学から追放したらしいんだ

I don’t know the details of his past
だけどぼくは、茶トラ先生の過去の詳細をを知らないし

and frankly
率直に言って

there’s not much point in me
そんなのどうでもいい

knowing it either.
たとえ知ったところで

Since being expelled from the university,
それで、大学を終われて以来

he has been living alone.
茶トラ先生は一人暮らし

He seems to be a wealthy man
資産家だったらしく

and I guess
それでぼくは思った

he doesn’t have any problems in life.
生活に困ることはなかったみたいだと

Rather, he seems to be happy
っていうか、茶トラ先生はむしろ楽しそうだった

since he can do research freely.
自由に研究できるから

But I don’t know
だけどぼくにはわかんない

why he has been living alone
先生がなんで一人暮らしなのか

and there is no telling
それにこれもわかんない

whether he was married or had any children.
奥さんがいたか、子供がいたかも

He is surrounded by mystery.
先生はミステリーに包まれている

But I really look up to him.
でもぼくは、本当に先生を尊敬している
