大学病院

Then we decided to go to the medical school hospital.
それからぼくらは、妹が勤めているだろう大学病院へと向かうことにした

And at first, we looked for Doc’s clunker just to make sure,
最初、ぼくらは茶トラ先生のボロ車がどうなっているか確かめるため、探してみた

pushing weeds aside and we found Docs car rotted away.
そして草をかき分けて見つかったのは、完全に朽ち果てたボロ車だった

“It hasn’t been used for many years.
だめだ　何年も走ってないのだろう

Well, let’s take a taxi.”
タクシーで行くとするか

So we walked for a while and reached a wide street.
それでぼくらは少し歩き、大通りに出た

Then we took a cool futuristic taxi
そしてイカした未来的なタクシーを拾い

and loaded the documents and the icebox in the trunk,
病院からもらった資料や、切除標本の入ったアイスボックスを、タクシーのトランクに積み

and went to the hospital.
そして大学病院へ向かった

When we got out of the taxi in front of the hospital,
病院の前でタクシーを降りたとき

Doc was very surprised and couldn’t speak for a while,
茶トラ先生はぶったまげて、しばらく言葉を失っていた

since the taxi fare was very high, probably because of the lift in prices.
物価上昇のためかタクシー代は、すさまじいことになっていたのだ

And the driver was also very surprised looking at the antique bills.
一方タクシーの運転手も、茶トラ先生が出した古いお札を見て驚いているようだった

“All the money has gone.”
有り金は使い果たした

Then Doc said.
茶トラ先生は言った

“We must go back to my house by Foxi.”
帰りはテクシーだ

“Well, what is Foxi?”
テクシー？

“To go on Foot instead of Taxi.
タクシーに乗る代わりにテクテク歩くのだ

I made the word some decades ago
数十年前にわしが作った言葉だが

but it is already a dead term.”
しかしすでに死語となっておる

Then we entered the hospital
それからぼくらは大学病院に入り

and went to the information counter
インフォメーションカウンターへ行き

and told the person that we wanted to see Dr. Arisa Suzuki.
そこの人にぼくらが「鈴木亜里沙先生」に会いたいと伝えた

So she asked us who we were.
すると彼女は、ぼくらがだれなのか訊いてきたので

Then I answered
ぼくは答えた

I’m Ichiro Suzuki
ぼくは鈴木一郎です

and am her elder brother.
兄です
