Then he ran after me.
するとあいつは追いかけてきた

But since the bike is faster and
だけど自転車のほうが速いし

he is fat, he was slowing down
あいつはデブだから、遅れはじめ

and finally gave up.
とうとうあきらめた


But I know he is a persistent guy,
だけどあいつはしつこい奴だから

so if I happen to run into him again,
また出くわしたら

I knew he would say,
きっとあいつは言うよ

“You owe me big time” again and again.
お前が責任を負うんだと、何度も何度も

So I rode as far away as I could,
それでぼくは、自転車で出来るだけ遠く行くことにした

thinking to myself,
自分にこう言い聞かせながら

“How am I gunna get out of this?”
どうやったらこんな最悪な状況から抜け出せるかな？って


And after riding for a while,
そしてしばらく走ったら

I approached the slope along the Grass Skiing Park.
草スキー公園に沿った坂に差し掛かった

So I tried to change gears
それで自転車のギアを換えようとしたんだ

into ‘first’ for the slope.
坂道用の１速に

But it didn’t work!
だけどだめだった

The gearbox appeared to be trashed.
変速機がイカれているみたいだった

And since there was no other option,
で、他になす術もないので

I climbed the slope in top gear.
トップギアのまま坂を登った


And that’s why I was sweating so much
そしてそれが、ぼくが大汗をかいて

climbing the slope.
自転車で坂を登ってた理由

But to make matters worse,
だけどさらに悪いことには

the gearbox was completely broken
ギアがカンペキにイカれ

and the chain came off.
チェーンが外れた

This meant that, the bike was
つまりぼくの自転車が

perfectly useless!
カンペキにイカれたってこと！

And this was all because of Devil!
そしてそれはみんなデビルのせい

He had fallen off my bike and wrecked it.
自転車をこかし、ぶっ壊した

And he had the nerve to tell me
そしてやつは、すさまじい神経の持ち主

‘I’ must pay!
「ぼく」が弁償しろってさ！

I couldn’t believe it!
信じられん！

What a jerk!
たまんねえよ！


So I was completely at a loss
で、ぼくはカンペキになす術もなく

and just standing there.
そこに立ち尽くした


But the very place I was standing
だけど、ぼくが立っていたまさにその場所が

was in front of Doc’s house.
茶トラ先生の家の前だったんだ


And this is how I met Doc.
それがぼくと茶トラ先生との出会いのいきさつ
