偵察１

So we went to August 23rd in the morning
それからぼくらは、８月２３日へ移動した

by the Machine.
タイムエイジマシンで

It was the day my father performed the auto-pilot flight
それはお父さんが、その自動操縦を実演した日だ

for the business meeting,
商談に先駆けて

went to the Chinese restaurant,
それから中華料理屋へ行き

latter headed for the karaoke lounge
その後カラオケへ行き

and on the way, my father was run over
その道の途中、お父さんは轢かれた

in the middle of the crossing.
横断歩道の真ん中で

Well, Doc and I were still wearing the black suits
ええと、ぼくらはまだ喪服を着ていた

that we had been wearing at the wake
それはお通夜で着ていたもの

and I was still in my thirties.
そしてぼくはまだ３０歳

And the black suits seemed to be good for reconnaissance
それから、喪服は偵察には良さそうだ

although my age didn’t really matter.
歳は関係ないけど

Then we reached the company of my father
それからぼくらはお父さんの会社近くに到着した

by Doc.'s clunker　
茶トラ先生のポンコツ車で

and looked for the airstrip
そしてラジコン飛行場を探した

where the demo flight was to be performed.
そこでデモフライトは行われる予定だ

The company is located
その会社は

in the suburbs
郊外にあった

and there we drove around for a while
それでぼくらはしばらく車でその周りを走り

and found the airstrip nearby.
近くに飛行場を見つけた

It was on a large grassy field surrounded by a fence.
それはフェンスに囲まれた芝生の生えた土地にあった

We pulled up slowly
ゆっくり車を走らせ

and parked the car outside the fence.
そしてフェンスの外に車を止めた

From the car window
自動車の窓から

we could see the runway and apron.
滑走路と駐機場が見えた
