Then I hurried to Doc’s laboratory on my bike.
それでぼくは、自転車で茶トラ先生の家へと急いだ
He was doing an experiment using a vacuum pump.
先生は真空ポンプを使った実験をやっていた
So I told him the situation.
それでぼくは状況の報告をした
“This is not good”
そいつはまずいなあ
Doc stopped the pump and said.
茶トラ先生はポンプを止めてから言った
“I guess some energy of the flow of time in the universe is trying to compensate.”
わしが思うに宇宙のエネルギーが運命を補正しようとしておるのだ
“Well, you are saying ‘compensate’ again.”
「補正」ってまた言ったね
“Yes. Probably it’s the law of nature.
おそらくこれが自然の法則なのだろう
Since your father was destined to be run over by a truck,
お前さんの親父さんは、トラックに轢かれる運命だったのだから
something similar might happen.
似たようなことは起こりえる

つまり親父さんは、横断歩道に大の字に寝転ぶ恐れがある

an emergency signal light,
非常用の赤いランプと
a whistle with a strap,
紐の付いた笛と
a large first-aid kit
大きな救急箱と
and a red suit
赤いスーツを
from somewhere in the house.
家のどこかから持ってきた
Since there was so much ‘Junk’ in his house,
茶トラ先生の家はガラクタであふれかえっているから
I was not so surprised to see such things.
そんなもの見たって、ぼくはちっとも驚かない
Well, aside that,

he told me to put on the red suit
先生はぼくに赤いスーツを着るように言った
in order not to reveal my identity.
ぼくが誰だか分からないようにするためだって
