タコ公園で

So away I went to the ‘Octopus slide’ in Octopus Park
それからぼくはタコ公園のタコ滑り台へと向かった

at exactly three o’clock.
ちょうど３時

As I expected I found Devil and his sidekicks
思ったとおりデビルと子分は

gathered here and there on the slide like a herd of monkeys.
滑り台のあちこちで、猿の群れみたいにたむろしていた

And they were smoking!
しかもやつらはタバコをすっていた！

Looking at the situation, my ‘conscience’ got angry.
その状況を見て、ぼくの「良心」が激怒した

So I unexpectedly
それで予想外に

spoke to them with a tone set to fight.
ぼくはケンカを売るような言い方をしてしまった

“Hey, are you a herd of monkeys?
やい、お前たちはサルの群れなのか？

And do you think you are cool smoking!”
それにタバコなんて生意気だ！

“What nerve!
いい神経してるじゃねえか！

When did you get so bossy?” Devil said.
お前いつからそんなに偉そうになったんだ？　デビルは怖く言った

I was slightly afraid of what he said.
デビルの言葉にぼくは少し怖くなった

So I said with a little friendlier tone.
それで少しだけフレンドリーにこう答えた

“From today.”
きょうからだよ～～ん♪

So he said,
するとデビルは言った

“Aren’t you a little taller than before?”
お前少し背が伸びたか？

Then one of the monkeys… no, no, sidekicks said.
するとサルの一匹…　いやいや、子分の一人が言った

“Must be those make me taller wannabe nerd shoes!”
どうせイカサマ上げ底靴で背伸びしてやんのさ

And I got a little angry by the word ‘nerd ’.
ぼくはその「いかさま」という言葉に少し頭に来た

So I said with a tone to set a fight once again.
それで再びケンカを売るような言い方になった

“Hey guys. Come on!
やいおめ～ら！　かかってこい！

Why are you still monkeys sitting there?”
それともサルみたいに、そこにいるつもりか？

As soon as I said that,
ぼくがそう言うや

Devil threw the cigarette and came down to me
デビルはタバコをポイと投げ捨て、ぼくのところに降りてきた

with his face red like an angry monkey.
怒りまくったサルみたいに、真っ赤な顔をして

“Shut up! Or I’ll beat you half to death.”
だまれ！　さもないと半殺しにするぞ

The situation seemed to be very bad.
状況はカンペキに最悪

I might have really been beaten half to death.
半殺しにされそう

But I decided to be defiant.
だけど勇気を持とう

Because there seemed to be no way around it
何たってほかに道はないし

since I was surrounded by his gang.
ぼくはすでに取り囲まれているし

It was the only way.
もうやるしかない

So I said,
それでぼくは言った

“Come on!”
かかってこい！
