Flow my tears fall from your springs,

流れよ、我が涙　汝の源泉より


Exil’d for ever: let me mourn

永遠に追放されし私の嘆きを　許したまえ


Where night’s black bird her sad infamy sings,

夜の黒い鳥が、悲しい辱めを歌うところで


There let me live forlorn.

私を荒野にて独り　生かせたまえ


Down vain lights shine you no more,

むなしき光を下げさせよ　　もう輝けるものとは思えない


No nights are dark enough for those,

夜は、それらに対しては暗さが全然足リぬ


That in despair their last fortunes deplore,

絶望の内に、末期に訪れしこの運命に嘆きは絶えぬ


Light doth but shame disclose.

光は明るく、それは辱めを白日のもとに晒すのみ


Never may my woes be relieved,

私の背負うこの悲しみから解放されることはないだろう


Since pity is fled,

なぜなら、憐れみを寄せてくれた者達はみな逃げ去り


And tears, and sighs, and groans my weary days,

涙と、ため息と、呻きばかりの　うんざりする毎日


Of all joys have deprived.

あらゆる喜びを失ってしまった


From the highest spire of contentment,

満ち足りの頂点から


My fortune is thrown,

我が運命は投げ落とされる


And fear, and grief, and pain for my deserts,

そして、恐れと、嘆きと、苦痛が　私への報いとなった


Are my hopes since hope is gone.

望みは消え失せ、それらの共添えが希望となった


Hark you shadows that in darkness dwell,

聞け、暗闇に住む影たちよ


Learn to contemn light,

この世の栄華を蔑むがよい


Happy, happy they that in hell,

幸いなるかな、幸いなるかな　地獄に住まいする者たちよ


Feel not the world’s despite.

この世からの侮蔑を、感ずることなかれ
